3 videos that show what psychedelics can do
Many people feel resistance when they hear the word psychedelics. Often that isn’t based on experience, but on unfamiliarity and the stories around it. In the beginning I shared the videos below with family and friends to soften that fear and offer a more honest picture of what it can bring in a positive way. A taboo is often rooted in fear. Information and real stories make room for nuance.
1. Can magic mushrooms relieve depression?
A clinical psychologist from Imperial College explains how psilocybin, used in a therapeutic setting, has been found to be effective for depression in research, and shares experiences from the study through patient stories and transformation.
Dr Rosalind Watts, trained at UCL and with experience in the NHS, worked on this clinical trial and explores patients’ positive experiences with this treatment.
2. Psychedelics and how to change your consciousness
In his book How to Change Your Mind, Michael Pollan explores the controversial yet growing field of the psychedelic renaissance in both science and popular culture.
What begins as investigative journalism becomes a personal journey through consciousness and spirituality.
3. Microdosing: A Really Good Day
Writer Ayelet Waldman describes in A Really Good Day how she microdosed LSD for a month as a radical attempt to break through her suicidal depression, with humor and candor.
She discusses not only the outcome, but also the legal aspects of therapeutic use, drawing on her experience teaching about the War on Drugs at UC Berkeley.
I hope this has given you more clarity and confidence. If you have questions or would like to share something, feel free to reach out.
